IT'S REALLY HAPPENING!

Building a co-educational secondary school in Gitare, Kenya is coming true – desk by desk, class by class! In just three short years Holy Family Catholic Community and friends have purchased land and constructed two classrooms, administration offices and restrooms. St. Josephine Bakhita Secondary School welcomed its first group of students for Form 1 (grade 9) on February 8, 2011, the feast day of St. Josephine. In Kenya, the school year begins in January. The students currently enrolled in Form 1 (Grade 9) will move to Form 2 (Grade 10) in January, 2010. This means that we will have the two completed classrooms occupied. As these students move on with their education into Forms 3 and 4 (Grades 11, 12), two more classrooms will be needed for the incoming classes. What a gift of hope for our brothers and sisters in Gitare! Secondary school is simply an “impossible dream” for the majority, who depend on subsistence farming, living on less than a dollar a day. Our school is right in their home village - making education more accessible and affordable. As we move forward with The Kenya School Project, we invite you to continue…or join us…in the next steps of our school project through your prayers and financial contributions. In the year ahead, we hope to build two more classrooms and add water storage tanks for drinking.
